POTS is diagnosed in people who when they stand up, they feel faint, lightheaded, the heart rate increases rapidly, they experience palpitations, can get Short of breath, sweaty and faint or feel like fainting. Symptoms may vary from mild to more severe.
Pots can present after a viral infection, e.g. ME, Covid etc….
Looking at the symptoms, they can be interlinked, as in one symptom triggers the other symptom and this is like a cascade of symptoms making the client feel frightened and feel they have no control over their body.
Various medications may be used/ trialed. Blood pressure meds &/ SSRI's .
CBT therapy is sometimes recommended by doctors also to manage the emotional effect it has on the person.
Craniosacral Therapy is very helpful in calming the central nervous system and has a very positive effect in regulating the Vagus nerve. Using the light touch of Craniosacral work, the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, are retuned and reset, a bit like rebooting the Computer.
In this process, if any childhood or other traumas present themselves, I guide the client in the healing process and ensuring that the trauma can be eliminated from the tissues of the body.
I always inform the client, the story is the story and remains so, but by facilitating the release of trauma from the tissues of the body, this allows the central nervous system to relax allowing for a lighter feeling in the body and the client will notice that they are no longer triggered by certain things. It can take between 3-5 sessions on average for clients to start noticing the benefits of the therapy.
Clients with POTS have found significant improvement in the severity of their symptoms.
Its important with all medical diagnosis, that a person is looked at holistically. We are not just a physical body, we are also an emotional body and the two can not and should not be seperated. Our bodies have an inate ability to heal and even if that is not to a 100% level, we can benefit from all healing that can occur. Craniosacral Therapy allows us to get out of our heads and into the body, where we can learn to listen to what the body needs. I guide & teach you how to get out of your head and down into the body so you too can listen to what it has to say.
If we dont listen to our bodies, they scream , and that scream is in the form of physical symptoms. It is never too late to start the listening process and allow our bodies to heal.
